The Creatine Kinase (CK) is an isoenzyme present in muscle (CK-M) and brain (CK-B) and also present in serum as dimers: CK-MM, CK-MB, CK-BB and Macroenzymes. The determination of CK-MB is quite specific for the cardiac muscle injury, since CK-BB is almost absent in serum and CK-MM, although abundant in serum, is known to be of skeletal muscle origin. Then, the CK-MB is clinically used for the diagnostics of the myocardium infarction.

The reaction for CK-MB consists of the direct determination of the enzymatic activity of CK-B, after specific inhibition of the CK-M subunit, present in CK-MM and CK-MB. This inhibition is done by the binding of polyclonal antibodies included in the reagent, which blocks the active site of the enzyme inhibiting its activity.
In rare events, due to the nature of the analyzed sample and composition of the reagent, the results may be interfered by unspecific reactions with the CK-B subunit. These interferences may generate altered results promoting a discrete discrepancy of the assay performance.

The new CK-MB reagent Biotécnica was designed to offer you the excellence in sensitivity and specificity. The technology of polyclonal antibodies was replaced by monoclonal antibodies. The monoclonal antibodies are obtained through immunization of single cell clones, in order that identical molecules compose the pool of antibodies. Besides, the immunization of these cells are made with peptides from the active site of CK-M, making the target for theses antibodies highly constrained and directed.
